You can use your Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) to enrol in our English for Migrants programme. All our teachers are qualified and experienced.

Eligibility

To enrol, you must:

• be an adult
• be living in New Zealand
• have already paid Immigration NZ for English lessons before you arrived in New Zealand. This is known as Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT)

Learn English in a group class

Joining a class is a great way to meet new people and learn English in a fun group environment.

Our friendly team will find the right class for your English level and study goals.

You can study online or in the classroom.

Private English lesson

You can use your PELT for private English lessons. You may also be able to learn with a family member if you both have PELT.

In a private lesson you can:

• decide with your teacher where and when to study
• go at your own speed
• choose what you want to study. For example, Kiwi expressions and grammar, or learning the English you need to get your driver’s licence or make an appointment.

Cost

You must use Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) to pay for English for Migrants classes.

Learning material provided by your teacher are free. If you want to study from special books you will need to pay for them.

2026 fees

Our administration fees:

• $200 (including GST)

Private lesson – one learner:

• $110 per hour per learner (including GST)

Private lesson – two learners:
Some learners have a private English lesson with their partner/spouse or another family member.

• $66 per hour per learner (including GST)

 Learn in a class:

• $33 per hour per learner (including GST)

Example: How you could spend your PELT

You have $1,531.82 and want to study in a class with a small group of other people. After taking out the 2026 administration fee of $200, you have $1,331.82.

Group lessons are $33 per hour.

You have enough to pay for 40 hours of lessons.

• PELT funds (you will need to provide us with your passport number and immigration number so we can check how much you have)
• learning options in your area.

After your PELT is spent

There are no exams when you complete your lessons. You will get an attendance certificate, and you can talk to us about joining another class if you would like to continue learning.
