Race Relations Day with Our Lady of Lourdes School

ESOL Intensive

To celebrate Race Relations Day 2019, Our Lady of Lourdes School in Palmerston North performed a special kapa haka session for ESOL Intensive learners from English Language Partners.

After a brief welcome speech by the principal, Jacinta Cousins, the kapa haka leader Whaia Frayne introduced and explained the items. Songs performed included Te Karakia o Te Atua, Ko Rangitane and a song and a haka that had been gifted to the school by parents of the school.

In reply the English Language Partners learners sang Te Aroha and Tutira Mai, and Our Lady of Lourdes joined in.  To finish, the young school students taught the adult learners the actions for ‘a, e, i, o, u’ based on The Macarena song.   All the refugees left with big smiles on their faces, and said they will never forget the visit.”

Thank you, Our Lady of Lourdes!
