Volunteer English Tutoring in Porirua

Volunteers

I have been a volunteer Home Tutor for English Language Partners for a little over a year now.

Initially I helped a Syrian refugee family who had just arrived in New Zealand, with their initial settlement, but now they are in full time English classes so have less need of my assistance.

I have recently moved on to assist Pasi, a young man from Samoa, with his reading and writing as he needs to upskill in this area for his current employment.

I have enjoyed building the trust required to establish a supportive relationship with people who are making a tentative start to enter Kiwi society.  It’s rewarding to see the learners make progress which enables them to be valued members of our community. I also enjoy learning a little of their culture.
