Trip brings language to life

English Language Groups

Making the most of a warm and sunny February, our Hutt centre ventured out to bring language to life and life to language!

Trips offer learners an ‘education outside the classroom’ experience, so the Upper Hutt English Language Group visited Government House in Wellington with their teacher Alwyn Jong and cultural language assistant Amahl Salman.

“No one had visited Government House before,” says Alwyn. As the class has just studied the role of the governor general and British monarchy in New Zealand, they loved the tour. “The tour guide really brought things to life – explaining the House’s history and significance to New Zealand.”

“Learners really enjoyed the whole experience of visiting such a grand house and walking around the lovely gardens!” Alwyn Jong, teacher

On return to Upper Hutt, the class visited the ‘Expressions Gallery’ and saw the National Geographic photo exhibition with its beautiful photographs from around the world.

A great way to make the most of the day!
